1966 FORD FALCON PRODUCTION FIGURES
(UNITED STATES)
Figures and information compiled by Al Aiello, 11/00
The Ford Falcon received a major restyling in 1966. The hood became longer and the trunk shorter. The body lines were more rounded when compared to the previous year.
Other restyling changes included the lengthening of the of the body because the Falcon models were now built on a shortened version of the Ford Fairlaine. The new wheelbase for car models went to 110.9 " (1.5" longer) and 113" on the Wagon. Total overall lengths were 184.3" for the cars and 198.7" for the wagons.
The Hardtop and Sprint models from the previous three years were no longer offered. Also gone were the Sedan Delivery, Convertible, and 2-Door Wagon models. Due to the success of the Mustang, Ford no longer needed the Falcon to carry the sporty image. The lone holdout as a sporty Falcon in '66 was the 2-door Sport Coupe.
The two basic series available in 1966 were the base "Falcon" and upgraded "Futura" lines. The total output for both series was 182,669 units. Ford did not maintain records regarding engines sizes, so production figures are based on all units of a particular model regardless of engine size.
Ranchero production continued in 1966, as did the production of station wagons and vans. The Ranchero strayed from the fold as there are no emblems on the mini-truck to identify it as a Falcon. The Ranchero was somewhat of a hybrid as it had a Falcon-like front end and a Fairlane-like rear treatment.
The Sport Coupe was the most sporty of Falcons in '66. The standard powerplant for the Futura Sport Coupe was the 200 cubic inch 6 cylinder motor, although it could be ordered with the venerable 289 V-8 engine.
The Falcon Club Wagons (Vans) were unchanged from the previous year. They were still available in three trim levels.
