205 FALCONS AT FCA NATIONAL EVENT

The 1999 FCA National Event was held at the Holiday Inn in Charlotte, North Carolina, on July 15-17, 1999. There were 205 beautiful Falcons registered for the show on Saturday.  The Carolinas Chapter hosted this year's show which was the 20th annual national event. The theme for the show was "Racing Falcons".

On Thursday, approximately 400 people toured the Dennis Carpenter Facility. Dennis Carpenter was on hand in person to welcome FCA members. FCA members received a tour of his facility where many Ford parts are reproduced for Falcons and other Ford models. Dennis also hosted a dinner later Thursday evening, and opened his fantastic museum full of Ford memorabilia.

After a tour of the Dennis Carpenter facility, FCA members were invited to the Charlotte NASCAR speedway to take some laps on the famed speedway in their Falcons. It was truly an an awesome sight to see Falcons of all years and models flying around the high-banked oval track.  Sorry, no photos to post at this time, but I do have a memorable video.  Thanks is in order Russ Hoeksema for the ride!

On Friday, additional tours of the area were offered, including a visit to the Holman & Moody facility located in Charlotte. Holman & Moody was the famed company that modified many competition Fords during the 1960s, including the Monte Carlo Rally Falcons.

Steve thought he had the corner on "cool" cars, but here's Al Aiello (SCFF Editor) standing behind a Rally Falcon at Lee Holman's shop awaiting its former glory.

On Saturday, the car show was held in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn. The show was dominated by Falcons from the southeast and northeast portions of the country. A few western Falcons were on hand, including a Ranchero driven by one of our own club members, Charles Schafer. Charles was later presented with the Longest Distance award at the banquet on Saturday evening. Falcon models covering the 1960-1970 span of production were on hand for the show. In addition to the show, a huge Falcon swap meet was held on a lot adjacent to the show grounds.

Pete Girad and his wife attended the FCA National event in this immaculate 1965 Comet Cyclone. Although this was a Falcon show and Pete's Comet was not on the show field, it received a lot of attention in the swap area where Pete was selling NOS parts from his trunk.  Click on the photo to enlarge it.  Use your browser "back" button to return to this page.

On Saturday afternoon, the FCA national club meeting was held. Rosie Wilson, Steve Dolar, and Al Aiello attended the meeting and invited FCA members to attend the 2000 FCA National event in Sacramento, California. The FCA Board of Directors acted on a number of matters which will be reported in the FCA National newsletter.

The Awards Banquet was held on Saturday evening. Lee Holman, son of the late John Holman of Holman & Moody fame, was a guest speaker. The banquet lasted well into the evening.

Here's Mr. Lee Holman addressing the throng at the banquet on Saturday night.  The Racing Falcons banner is in the background.  Lee related some old stories about the early racing Falcons, including the Rally Falcons.

The show was considered a major success. The Carolinas Chapter was congratulated by participants for a job well done!
