STEVE AND JAN HOBART

STOCKTON, CA

1964 FORD RANCHERO DELUXE

This 66-B Ranchero came off of the San Jose, California production line on January 27, 1964 according to the VIN (vehicle identification number).  It was purchased from the original owner in 1996.

Steve had the vehicle media blasted at Precision Stripping in Lodi and subsequently painted its original Dynasty Green and Wimbledon White, by Brian Sherwood of French Camp.  Once the paint job was complete, work began on fixing the problem that caused the vehicle to need to new paint job – gas overflowing from the gas cap had marred the paint job.  Steve relocated the gas filler to inside the bed and added a vent hose.  He was then able to secure the original gas cap so that it could not be removed.

Residing under the hood is the original 260 CID V-8 engine.  The automatic transmission was upgraded to a C-4 (3 speed).  Some other improvements that Steve has made are:  front disc brakes (SSB), front and rear one inch stabilizer bars, rear air shocks,  1969 Ford 14 x 6 Rally wheels, aluminum radiator, Grant GT steering wheel, white faced instrument panel with auto meter gauges, Pertronix ignition, 3-chamber Flowmaster exhaust, Sanderson headers, Edelbrock intake, and Edelbrock AFB carb.

This Ranchero has won numerous awards, among them a 1st place at the 1996 Stagg Auto Club as “Best 60’s Truck”, a 3rd at the 2001 16th Annual Stockton Asparagus Festival, a 2nd at the 2004 19th Annual Stockton Asparagus Festival, and a 3rd place at the West Coast Falcon Regional.

Steve and Jan have had many pleasurable rides in this vehicle, especially with the River City Falcon Club.  They get a lot of, “Hey, I had one of those as a kid…” along with “Is that an El Camino?”  AARGH!!!
